Eguchi (2002) claims, however, that Japanese arguably has a structure that allows so-called floating quantifiers with an adverbial property to undergo relatibization. The purpose of this paper is to describe the syntactic and semantic features of this kind of relative clause. l follow Eguchi in arguing  that the relative clauses in question differ from ordinary ones in that they take a \"scale expression\" without a concrete cardinal (e.g.kazu ('unber')and ryou ('quantity')) as an antecedent, wheras ordinary relative clauses take an entity-denoting expression as an antecedent. I thus refer to the former type as \"number/quantity-restricting\" relative clauses, and to the latter type as \"entity-restricting\" relatibe clauses.
