| 内容記述 | This paper examines the contested and evolving collective memory of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, shaped by both domestic and international perspectives̶from the United States, the wartime victor, and from Japan, a nation both victim of the bombings and wartime aggressor in Asia. Under U.S. occupation, atomic bomb survivors (hibakusha) were silenced and faced social discrimination, but the rise of antinuclear movements in the 1950s enabled them to voice their suffering and the enduring effects of radiation. This study explores marginalized hibakusha narratives, including those of Koreans̶long excluded but now increasingly recognized̶and Japanese Americans, whose accounts provide a counter-memory to dominant narratives. Hiroshima’s peaceoriented discourse and the Christian interpretations of Nagasaki’s Urakami Catholic community further expand the mnemonic landscape. Drawing on field research, survivor interviews, and archival sources, I argue that the bombings cannot be fully understood within Maurice Halbwachs’s and Pierre Nora’s frameworks of collective memory. While their theories of socially constructed remembrance and lieux de mémoire remain foundational, integrating individual testimonies and marginalized voices is essential to capture the diversity of hibakusha experiences. Moreover, with new forms of storytelling such as art and immersive technologies, collective memory continues to evolve, shaping how the bombings are recorded, transmitted, and remembered. | |||||||
