| 内容記述 | The present study has two primary aims. First, it examines the post-graduation career paths of students who received support from the Support Center for Special Needs Students at Hiroshima Jogakuin University, referencing institutional data based on the survey categories of the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO). Second, it focuses specifically on students with mental disabilities among all disability types — who are the largest group at the institution — and explores the challenges they face during social transition as well as implications for effective support practices. The average graduation rate among students with disabilities at the university was 81.6%, with no significant differences observed across disability categories. Regarding post-graduation outcomes, 46.3% of students entered regular employment, and when temporary or short-term employment (10.4%) was included, a total of 56.7% were engaged in some form of work. However, 31.3% were categorized as "other," indicating that a certain number neither pursued further education nor joined the workforce immediately. Notably, among students with mental disabilities, the employment rate was lower, and the proportion categorized as "other" was higher compared with the overall cohort, suggesting that disability-specific factors may influence the transition to employment. This paper provides an overview of Japan's employment policies for people with disabilities and examines how the low employment retention rate among individuals with mental disabilities relates to factors such as symptom variability and the risk of relapse. It also identifies challenges these individuals face in understanding and accepting their condition and considers the possibility of effective use of positive psychology in supporting personal recovery. |
