This is her first novel，in which she tries to verify how black women have been oppressed. In order to do this，she makes an analysis of their historial roles，which were played by black women but which black women were forced to play by the white and men. In addition to this，Alice Walker seems to think that black women，in a sense，forced themselves to play their historical roles，too. In this article，these historical roles are called \"stereotype.\" First of all，in this paper，people with this \"stereotpe\" are introduced and analyzed. Secondly，possibility of getting out of this \"stereotype\" is discussed.
