内容記述 | This paper discusses the development of English language speaking tests for elementary school pupils. The purpose of English activities in elementary schools is to foster interest in English. Until now, evaluations of pupils’ progresses in English activities have relied on teacher’s evaluations and pupils’ self-assessments. Recently, language tests have been used at elementary schools to assess children’s English abilities, and the results have been reflected in teaching methods. Speaking and listening skills are now emphasized at public elementary schools. Therefore, it is helpful to use both listening tests and speaking tests together in order to evaluate the English abilities of pupils. It is not enough to adopt only speaking tests at elementary schools. With regards to successfully teaching English to children, it is important to develop speaking tests for young English learners. In order to develop the tests, it is necessary to choose suitable tasks, adequate rating scales, proper test methods, and appropriate human raters. Education leader need to train raters, to increase the validity of tests, and to examine the reliability of tests. It is essential to develop speaking tests that not only researchers but also homeroom teachers can use easily and simply to make English education better |
