内容記述 Obesity is caused by animbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure, and is the main risk factor of metabolic syndrome. Although irregular lifestyle has a bad influence on health, few reports are present on the relation between seasonal rhythm of energy balance and body fat. To clarify this, young women aged from 20 to 22 years old were recruited and measured their energy balance, physical activity, biological rhythm, and body fat.
Percentage of body fat showed a seasonal rhythm with increased in winter and decreased in summer, while the seasonal energy balance was decreased in winter and increased in summer. The relation between menstrual cycle and rhythm of energy balance was not clear. Two peaks of rhythm in the energy balance were observed in a week; one was the weekday (Tuesday) and the other was the weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday). Energy intake was similar to energy expenditure on the weekday. On the weekend, the subjects were physiologically active and dietary intake was decreased on Saturday as compared with those on the weekday, but these phenomena were not observed on Sunday. The circadian rhythm of energy intake represented with regularity; breakfast (25%) < lunch (34%) < supper (40%), and the amount of physical activity was as follows; supper-bedtime (15%) < awakeningl1unch (30%) < lunch-supper (55%).
Using analysis with amplitude spectrum in energy intake and physical activity, the subjects having a constant life rhythm showed a large amount of physical activity with adequate intake of meal, and the body fat percentage in 90% of these subjects was decreased after 5 weeks.
