The principal aims of the present study were to focus on “Christianity Time” at Hiroshima Jogakuin University, a Christian university, and clarify the educational effects and value of continuing efforts of Christian education for students of a historical Christian university by analyzing students’ comments. “Christianity Time” is a ₄₅-minute worship program held from ₁₃:₀₀ to ₁₃:₄₅ every Tuesday during the instruction period to which various lecturers are invited; it is designed for comprehensive and human character education, including women's education that based on the foundation of Christianity, in order to broaden horizons, develop the ability to think and act, focus on peace and human rights education, human character education, etc. While the program is linked with related classes, the free will of students to participate is respected. Comment cards submitted to “Christianity Time”(from April ₂₀₁₆ to January ₂₀₁₇; once a week, ₃₀ times in total)conducted during the spring and fall semester terms in ₂₀₁₆ were selected as subjects in the present study. Using text mining software(HKcorder ver. ₂.₀₀f), more detailed data cleaning, including correction of typographical errors in impressions written on comment cards, unification of words with equivalent semantic semantic content, etc. was performed. The results of analysis of the contents of the impressions of “Christian Time” from the spring to fall semester suggest that Christian education could cultivate human abilities for first-year students, who are mostly non-Christians. Moreover, a comparison of the semesters revealed that as students repeatedly participated in the program, they obtained rich internal experiences and deepened re-examination of the self. |
