| 内容記述 | According to Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English, one of the samples of English conversation corpus consists of lexical words （41%） , function words （44%） , and inserts （10%） , and considering the total number of each word category, function words and inserts play a very significant role in conversation. This paper, therefore, will deal with some function words and conversational functions, focusing on wh-words, existential there and some similar words, especially those with the language label spoken, one of the register labels in Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English. Analyzing these function words in LDOCE, we find that they have interactive functions in conversation such as drawing attention, expressing diverse emotions, and introducing main utterances. Conversation participants, using such function words and inserts, make their utterances more interpersonal and interactive than the counterparts in written English. |
