内容記述 This work was designed to study the efficiency of nutritional advice to students who are suffering from either ocerwaight or underweight problems. The recrds accumulated for two consective years of regular physical examinations of Hiroshima Jogakuin University indicate that 347 students out of a total 3,204 students had a BMI less than 18 and 221 students had a BMI more than 30. Twenty-one of the students whose BMI was less than 18 and 11 students whose BMI was more than 30 were enrolled in this study, aiming at faining an appropriate body weight, by regular consultation (onece or twice every month from May to December) on their nutritional states and lifesyle. At every consultation. materials for stress markers such as cortisol in saliva and catecholamine in urine were collected. Among 27 students (17 students with BMI≦18 and 10 students with BMI≧30) who have continously participated in this project until the end, 20 students showed improvement of their body weifht, showing that this suidance is effective. On the other hand, there was no difference in stress markiers between students having a beneficial effects and those not. The most influential factors for this improvement are listed as follows: 1) underweight students started to take a breakfast regularly and improve the contents of their meals and 2) overweight students stopped taking snacks and introduced physical exercise.
According to the survey done at the beginning of this project, noticeable points are : 1) a determinant factor for hoping to take a nutritional fuidance continuously is dependent on whether they felt physically well or not; 2) students with BMI≦18 tend to stick to the present body image and to hold a thin body image, in which its body weight is less by 8kg than an appropriate body weight. as their "desired figure" ; 3) among the students who did not take fuidance, menstrual irregularity was recognized more frequently. compared with those who participated.
Taken together, we need to disseminate more information about the adverse physical effects of being underweight.
