During the period between 1973 and 1976，we followed up the bodily changes of 30 pregnant women and nursing mothers by taking monthly measurement of the parts of their bodies between the 4th and the 10th month of their pregnancy and on the first month after childbirth. A close examination was given to the monthly increase and decrease in the measurements， the ratios to stature，the ratios of trunk thickness to trunk width and the changes of posture as pregnancy advanced. Here is a brief summary of the results. 1.The items which showed a remarkable increase between the 4th and the 10th month of pregnancy were as fo1lows: abdominal extension height (front) 7.4cm (8%)，cervicale to center front at waist 19.3cm (27%)，abdominal extension girth 14.2cm (17%)，abdominal thickness 8.1cm (38%)，abdominal slope 25.0° (129%) and weight 10.6kg (22%).2. The monthly increase was remarkable between the 5th and the 8th month and most remarkable in the 5th and the 6th months. 3.The restorability after childbirth was high in the items of length and thickness (80-97%) and abdominal slope (110%)，and low in girth，width and weight items (30-76%). 4.In the fo1lowing items，the ratios to stature showed little difference during the period between the 4th and the 10th month: back length (88). back waist height (61-62) and navel height (58-57). In the rest of the items，however，the difference was remarkable. It was remarkable especially in cervicale to center front at waist (47-59)，waist girth (45-56)，abdominal extension girth (55-64). waist thickness (12-18). abdominal thickness (14-19). abdominal slope (12-29) and weight (32-39). 5.The ratios of trunk thickness to trunk width showed a gradual increase. In the 10th month，70% of pregnant women were greater in thickness than in width on the waist and 23% on the abdomen. 6.As the abdomens grew big and protruded，pregnant women were seen to throw back their heads to balance themselves. After childbirth，they restored their former postures. |
